Devo Week 29 - Discerning the Unseen Realm

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Matt.10:16

The One Sheep - Love That Surpasses Knowledge

Love is perhaps our most compelling motivator. Feeling struck, love can swoop in and set us into motion in a moment’s notice. It can move us to action, propelling us along the road of life. Unlike worldly loves that often travel express lanes, God’s love has its own lane, called surpass. This surpass lane is traveled on roads in the Kingdom of God. It’s a relational lane steered by love, reserved for Jesus and His follower. This lane is not usually the fastest, but it is the most committed and steadfast. On this road less traveled, though often risky, we are not easily deterred or distracted.

WHO IS FOR US

God’s love surpasses knowledge. His love doesn’t pursue the head but aims straight for the heart. It goes beyond the realm of logic and the bottom line (like in the business world). How could God win by giving His only Son to die in our place? Even principalities and powers in the spiritual realm could not understand what Jesus was doing by allowing them to crucify Him.  (I Cor. 2:1-8) The piercing of God’s love to the heart brings wholeness and heals without wounding. It resurrects our spirit, quickens our mortal body, and heals our wounded emotions. That is precisely the heart of love that is pursuing all nations, both Jews and Gentiles.

WHO IS AGAINST US

The devil laughed, thinking he was victorious, watching Jesus die on the cross. He and his angels didn’t realize that God’s love surpasses death as well. The Apostle Paul calls death the last enemy of humanity. Death is the final spiritual battle for everyone. Yet, as love faces death, resurrection will soon follow-up. The love that surpasses both knowledge and death lives in all followers of Jesus. When God guides us across cultures, our very presence is a sign that He loves all nations. Through us His passion overflows and pursues the lost, until the one sheep is found.  Love is how we fight our spiritual battles!

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH

Lord, pour Your love into our hearts afresh by the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 5:5) May Your love overflow to all nations through us in our sphere of influence. (Eph. 3:16-19) Move in us to pursue the one sheep, the neglected whom the world has forgotten. In Your Son’s name, we pray. Amen!
