Devo Week 5 - Discerning the Unseen Realm
“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Matt.10:16
Mystery of Christ - Beholding Him
Let’s face it. Yes and no answers might be hard to swallow at times, but at least they’re answers. What’s worse is when there’s no answer, no explanation, no reasoning, and you’re left with seemingly nothing. Would you agree? Mystery can leave us wondering AND wandering. This is when spiritual warfare can come into play.
WHO IS FOR US
God has given us a wonderful key to embracing mystery: the indwelling person and presence of the Holy Spirit. As our guide and teacher, He brings revelation to us in the wisdom of God’s timing. He also keeps us in step with God’s mission and the unveiling of mysteries as Jesus becomes known and worshiped as Savior among every people group.
The Holy Spirit safeguards the plan of God which is hidden within the narratives or stories of each people group until its time of unveiling. The Apostle Paul referred to this as the mystery of Christ — that is, God’s plan to save both Jew and Gentile (non-Jewish nations) through His Son, Jesus. The unveiling of this mystery began with the life of Abraham, the father of the Jews and, by faith, of all nations (Gen. 17:5) Now, by faith as Abraham’s descendants, we also have the privilege of being a part of carrying out God’s plan.
WHO IS AGAINST US
The devil and his angels will do everything in their power to change this truth, to frustrate and hinder the redemption of God among all nations. Conflict and resistance attempting to block this reality are signs of spiritual warfare. These might be personal or circumstantial on a larger scale. Even personal battles can have larger implications for the entire people group. This means we must repeatedly align with God’s Kingdom in this battle. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. (Luke 19:10) He also came to “destroy the works of the enemy,” not tolerate them. (I John 3:8) We advance God’s Kingdom by submitting to God while building relationships by the Spirit and contending for the unveiling of His Son among all nations.
PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH
Father God, show us where You are working and where the enemy is resisting and blocking the spread of Your Kingdom. Lord, give us revelation and wisdom to know how to join You in this battle of redemption for all nations. We humble ourselves before You and ask to be conformed into the image of Jesus. As You work in us, also work through us. May we join Your mission with righteousness, joy, and peace by the Holy Spirit! (Rom. 14:17) In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
