The Breadth and the Depth: Spiritual Practices and Disciplines for Discipling Movements
Mission's Edge Roundtable June 2021 Session:
As catalysts to church planting movements, or local indigenous leaders of these movements, how can we be sure that we are tending not only the breadth of the movement but also its spiritual depth? In this roundtable discussion we will use Jessica's published thesis paper entitled “Rhythms of Spiritual Praxis as Discipleship from Karma to Atonement among Believers from a Tibetan Buddhist Background” as the starting point of a conversation on the role of rhythmic and contextual spiritual practices in deeper discipleship within movements.
Featuring:
Mama J has served in full time ministry since 2004 and has been with All Nations since 2011. Along with receiving her training in Cape Town, she has served in Cape Town, the Himalayas of NW India, and is currently in Taiwan. She has served on hub staff, as a field team leader, and currently serves as a church planting/member care coach and a trainer for CPx, both with cross-cultural catalytic workers and local indigenous workers. She holds an M.A. in Christian Formation and Discipleship and is an ordained minister.
Brandon Jones has worked as a movement catalyst, primarily in Southern and Eastern Africa, for the past decade. As a part of this work, he has been keenly interested in seeing indigenous leaders prioritize their own spiritual formation, as well as that of the movements they ignite.
Blake Staton spent nearly 18 years in Northern Thailand, living and ministering among one of the least-reached. Alongside this work, Blake served his last ten years as Cultural Consultant for Global Recordings Network in Thailand, with influence among numerous unreached people groups in Southeast Asia. He received his Master's in Intercultural Studies (MAICS) from Biola University, while still on the field. Blake currently resides with his family in the USA.
The shorter version of Mama J's thesis was published in Glocal Conversations in Dec. 2020. See the short version or the full thesis.
