Second letter of a transformed life
This is my second story of a transformed life of a young girl. As you know, God burdened my heart to leave my teaching job and work in full time ministry; it was a difficult decision as I was the only earning member in our family at that time. But I know if God wants me to do this He has big plans. I quit my job and started helping in the ministry. By that time we had two sons who were studying in the school where I taught. Because of my decision to leave my job we had to pull out both our boys from school.
I started going to the slums to visit families. One Sunday we visited one Nepali family in the slum. We saw a new member in that family, a young girl who had come from Nepal to visit her sister. The family was not able to feed this young girl as they lived under the poverty line. Seeing their situation we decided to bring this young girl to stay with us. We did not know how we would manage financially. But God's love moved our hearts and we brought her home, soon she became a member of our household. She was named after a Hindu goddess. We called her Deborah. She became good friends with Monica (the girl I mentioned in my first letter).
We started praying together, sharing with Deborah the love of Jesus. Soon she gave her life to Jesus. We thought that it would be good for her to do a short bible course called DTS YWAM in Nepali. So we arranged money for her and were able to send her to this DTS in a place called Manali. She had a great time there and came back with a strong relationship with the Lord and heart to serve Him.
Meanwhile I had started making some handmade things to sell and also took part time tutoring to support the family. One day our oldest son got very sick. We made an appointment with the doctor but soon realized we did have money to pay the doctor. We decided to cancel the appointment. We did not have a phone at that time so we had to run to my mom's place to use her landline phone. As I opened the door, there stood a man with a white envelope in his hand. He was a gardener and worked for a lady who we had reached the gospel with two years ago. He handed the envelope to me and said that it was sent by this lady. I opened the envelope and found that there was enough money to pay the doctor's fees and medicine, and praised the Lord for sending His angels to us.
Deborah stayed with us for 3 years, we had developed a great relationship with her and our boys also had a loving relationship with Deborah. She got married to a man who was also from a Hindu background, but a believer in Christ. We were happy for her. Just a month after her wedding she started feeling sick. Soon we found out that both her kidneys were failing. It was a big shock to us. She was put on dialysis. She suffered a lot in her body but her heart always knew that Jesus was near to her; she lived for another 3 years which was very difficult for her and for us too. She went to be with the Lord. We miss her and thank God for her life.
When I look back I think what if Deborah had gone back to Nepal. She would have never heard about Jesus and enjoyed the love of the Lord. We see now that God brought her from Nepal, brought her to our family to reach out to her. According to the world it was not a wise decision to bring her to our home, but according to God it was a plan to transform a life. Our obedience towards God's voice brought the reward of witnessing how God can transform lives. The journey wasn't easy for Deborah nor for us. But we praise God that He fulfilled what He had planned all glory to Him.
About the author: I am Soni working in the Northern part of an Asian country as a full time minister. I work along side my husband Amrit who is from South Asia. I quit my teaching job after I heard the call of the Lord to work for Him among the ladies in unreached areas. So we have many ladies and girls from a non-Christian background now following the Lord. The Lord asked me to share their stories of how He transformed their lives. So I have started writing their stories. I have four boys. It has become very difficult for us to minister openly now as we are facing a lot of persecution. But guess what…He keeps working…transforming people’s lives…His love reaches people!
