Letter of a transformed life
I would like to share the story of a young girl and how God transformed her life.
Our neighbor’s house helper met me at the vegetable cart outside our house (in our Asian country we have people selling vegetables on a moving cart). She greeted me and in a short conversation she mentioned a young girl who lived in a slum nearby needed work to earn for her family as her father had passed away. At that very moment I felt that I should meet this girl. I asked the lady to bring the girl the next day to meet me.
Next morning I heard a knock at my door and a voice calling “didi” (a Hindi word for an elder sister). As I opened the door, there stood this thin, pale young girl of around 14 years old. Her eyes looked sad and her body was undernourished . Of course I would not let her work for me due to her young age. I asked her if she could come and play with my kids everyday. Her eyes brightened and she right away agreed to my proposal.
So this little girl Monica (not her original name) started coming every day and spent time with my two little boys. We as a family started sharing the love of Jesus with her in our actions. She soon became comfortable and started feeling loved. We as a family used to sing worship songs in the mornings. We invited her to join in for worship and soon she became a part of it. God was doing something in her heart, she had never been treated with love and acceptance before. We already had started sharing the gospel with her and she began to understand who Jesus was. As a result, the most joyous day came when she accepted Jesus as her personal savior during the time of morning prayer and worship. Something in her changed amazingly. She was full of joy, hope and love and was very excited with this new experience in her life. As she had not gone to school it was difficult for her to read and write. I started teaching her how to read and write.
She faced a lot of persecution from her mother, relatives and friends because of her faith. She was beaten up many times at home. She would run to our house for shelter and care. The mother allowed her to stay with us just because she was earning money for the family. The time passed and Monica stood firm in her faith. I then realized that it is important to preach the gospel but it is also very important to disciple and stand alongside new believers. Monica faced a lot of struggles because she was the only member who followed Jesus in her family. Her love for Jesus grew deeper and deeper each day. As a result her brother also came to the Lord.
She was with us as a family for about 12 years. She got married to a believer who also was from a Hindu background. She now has two young sons. She serves in a small church outside our city as a women’s leader.
What a joy to see first generation Christians. She is a reward to us from the Lord. I give glory to Him. It is a privilege to witness the work of the Lord. Thank you.
About the author: I am Soni working in the Northern part of an Asian country as a full time minister. I work along side my husband Amrit who is from South Asia. I quit my teaching job after I heard the call of the Lord to work for Him among the ladies in unreached areas. So we have many ladies and girls from a non-Christian background now following the Lord. The Lord asked me to share their stories of how He transformed their lives. So I have started writing their stories. I have four boys. It has become very difficult for us to minister openly now as we are facing a lot of persecution. But guess what…He keeps working…transforming people’s lives…His love reaches people!
