Who are the unreached?

The world is a big place. Where do I begin to make disciples and train leaders to ignite church planting movements? Our mission statement makes it clear: among the neglected peoples. I remember when I was in middle school having a conversation with the Lord. I thought, "What do I want to be when I grow up?" I remember thinking that maybe I would work for the Peace Corp, or the Red Cross or something like that. Then, I remember hearing Jesus say, "Those groups only help people in this present life, which is short. You ought to help them both in this life and in the life to come, which is much longer. Only missionaries can do that." I know that we have been given a clear command to care for the poor, the orphan, the widow and the alien. However, we have been given a command greater even than these: Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself.

Ultimately, rich and poor alike find peace and joy in the same way: through glorifying Jesus Christ. And so, for me, the neglected people are easy to find. It's not about an income level or a standard of living. I simply look to where the hope of Jesus is not being proclaimed. In All Nations we simply look to see where there are no churches and no believers, and then we go there. Of course, we also care for the poor (which is actually hard to do well); but, God forbid that we should ever care for the mortal soul and neglect the immortal one. The immortal soul has been neglected by too many for too long.
