Real Life. Real People. Real Stories.

Featuring Robert and Stefan -- Roma people in Romania

Robert, a fairly new believer and legally blind, encountered Jesus through a powerful dream. In the dream, Robert became aware of Jesus' displeasure with his current lifestyle. This prepared Robert to repent and be baptized, when given the invitation by All Nations' missionary family, the Weigelts.

Although Robert lacked Bible knowledge, he eagerly shared and obeyed everything that he was learning. Last year, he embraced Jesus' call to discipleship. (Matt. 28:18-20) Robert began to disciple and baptize his neighbors, friends and family members. This led to the formation of a simple church community. In July 2022, the church gathered around Robert and appointed him as leader of the house church through the laying on of hands.

Robert has been leading his house church community well. They meet Tuesday evenings to pray for their lost friends and family and on Sunday afternoons for Discovery Bible Study. The Weigelts have been regularly joining them on Sundays to train them in loving obedience to Jesus' commands, New Testament church functions (Acts 2:36-47), and Gospel sharing. Although they are poor, poorly educated and written off by local evangelical leaders, many are hearing the Gospel through the bold witness of these disciples of Jesus. Their neighborhood is being changed through their Gospel witness!

Stefan, a key member of the community, is homeless and lives at the only shelter in Brasov. Stefan always exudes joy and is eager to learn Bible stories and share them with other homeless people. Last fall, Stefan led Ioan in repentance to Jesus. Together with Robert, Stefan baptized Ioan in the Ghimbasel river. Ioan cannot read but is growing exponentially in relationship with Jesus as he lives out his faith in community.

"The Roma are especially disadvantaged, excluded and marginalized from Romanian society, but we see God at work! It is common to hear our disciples testify of coming to Christ because of miracles, healings, dreams and visions. God is helping us to train and empower Roma disciple-makers to be the 'conduits of change' in their communities and to multiply disciples - transforming it from the inside out."

About the authors: The Weigelts are an All Nations mssionary family who have been living with the Roma in Romania since 2008. The majority of their work in spreading the Gospel has been among the Romanian poor, especially the Roma.
