Joy in Feasting

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8

Many cultures have specific times of gathering and feasting such as Christmas or Chinese New Year. We recently had the privilege of celebrating a time of wonderful feasting with friends and neighbors at end of a special month of fasting. During this feast one thing they recognize is their victory of self-control over their hunger.

As I was savoring the special once a year chicken curry poured over sticky rice I couldn't help imagining the kingdom feast we are invited to. Just as in our friends' feast, we also get to celebrate victory, but this victory is not just over our hunger, but over sin and death itself. And it's not a feast that we must earn our way into, but is incredibly and freely given to us, paid and prepared by King Jesus himself.

In reading Jesus's story about the great feast in John 14 I was convicted. How many times have I, like those invited in that story, carelessly rejected my King's invitation? How many times have I chosen my pride over His dish of humility and reconciliation? Or how long ago was it when I decided to worry instead of turning to Him for another portion of His perfect peace? It is far too often that I choose my own way, but oh the incredible joy that comes when my spirit is full from saying yes to Him.

All are invited, Father God's house must be filled. Have you accepted the invitation? Are you feasting on the goodness of our God? Come, let us together, today, enter in to the greatest feast of our lives, provided by none other than King Jesus himself.
