Devo Week 37 - Discerning the Unseen Realm

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Matt.10:16

Our Place in History (Part 1) - Fact or Fiction

Have you noticed the raging battles around our identity? Knowing who God is, who we are, and who our enemy is, keeps our footing firm on solid ground. When storms arise, Jesus is our lighthouse, the One who speaks peace to our souls. He rescues us and has good plans prepared in advance for us to do (Eph. 2:10). With every battle we overcome, our testimony strengthens as we continue trusting in Him. Any misplaced trust is sinking sand.

WHO IS FOR US

Jesus, our Messiah, has roots. Our spiritual identity is grafted into His family tree. His genealogy is a historical fact, not a false narrative, and reminds us of our history upon earth. This keeps us grounded in the story God is writing, which includes us as we follow Him.

Jesus was the Son of God while upon the earth, the second Adam, through whom God would fully identify with all of humanity. Jesus was touched by all the weaknesses of humanity yet overcame them all. (Heb. 2:14-18) Now He has come to dwell in our hearts by the Holy Spirit to fill, overflow and redeem us completely. God came to redeem us so that all the ‘families of the earth’ will be blessed through faith in Jesus. (Acts. 3:25)

WHO IS AGAINST US

Satan likes entering the context in which we’ve grown up and lived, knowing how much family, friends, community, geography, and environment shape our identity. He tries to draw us away from our identity in Christ, seeking to steal, kill and destroy who we are in God. (John 10:10) For it is by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony that we overcome the evil one. (Rev. 12:11)

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH

Lord, thank You that no one can snatch us from Your hand. (John 10:27-29) You are our great Rescuer, our Savior, the One who forms us as daughters and sons of God. We pray that You continue to conform us fully to our identity in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
