May Our Good Holy Spirit Lead You in 2024
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.
Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.
Psalm 143:8,10
“May your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” I’ve been so impressed by our good Holy Spirit who carves a level path for us through impassable mountains and tortuous terrains. My husband John is about to have surgery for colon cancer on February 6 and a dear friend gave me these verses. I’ve drank every morning of His unfailing love towards me. Similarly, I bless each of you each day of 2024 to breathe His words of unfailing love, to know His will, and to be led by our good Spirit on a level path.
His leading is also in our calling. At All Nations, we are in the business of sending workers to the least reached. But New Testament missions really began when “the Holy Spirit said” (Acts 13:2). He personally spoke, selected Saul and Barnabas, strategized their calling to the Gentiles, and sent them to the nations:
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. (Acts 13:2-4).
Global mission is Holy Spirit mission. Because it is:
our Holy Spirit who SPEAKS initiatives
our Holy Spirit who SELECTS servants
our Holy Spirit who STRATEGIZES mission
our Holy Spirit who SENDS workers
I love imagining what it looked like as they were “sent on their way by the Holy Spirit.”
As you send out family and friends from your church to the nations, what does being sent by the Holy Spirit look like? Even as we screen, select, onboard, and send workers, have them fill out multiple forms, receive training, and sign off on organizational processes and policies, let us ensure that it is primarily the Holy Spirit who speaks, selects, strategizes and sends our workers.
Our posture is simply—like the Antioch church in this passage—to be a worshipping, praying, and fasting people quick to hear and obey what our good Spirit says to us individually and corporately.
In my journal, I’ve started a new chapter to specifically record his goodness for our family even through John’s health journey. I want to remember His every word of unfailing love for us.
In 2024, may our good Spirit lead all of us on a level path.
