Treasure Hunting

The busiest area of Fish Hoek is the main road, which usually has lots of traffic and is filled with bustling shops and businesses. Our prayer walking group (which thankfully continues to grow!) decided to do an extended time walking and praying down the main road. We wanted enough time to speak with the business owners and employees and actively pray with people we meet. Before we left, we asked God to give us pictures or impressions that could help lead us to anyone he has prepared for us to pray with. This form of prayer is sometimes called a "treasure hunt" because God gives us clues about who he specifically wants to bless that day.

I partnered with Rufaro, a young adult from Victory church who I started meeting with last year and who has been eager to join our prayer walks. She is such a passionate young woman with a gift of communication and a heart for Jesus and others. She wrote down what she experienced on the day and gave me permission to share it with you:

The prayer walk was such a fun and exciting day for me! Even leading up to the walk l was so open to seeing where, who or what God was pointing out to me.

The whole of June, God had given me the phrase "red shoes" and on the day before Allison and l started the walk, I remembered the RED SHOES!

We started the prayer walk and it was real awesome!! By the time we got into our third shop l had forgotten about the red shoes.

We reached the end on the prayer walk and walked over to the Stag for a debrief session. The whole time we were sitting there and talking, l was so so so distracted. I thought maybe it's because lm exhausted,  but then as l looked over to the door - out into the road l saw a mom and her two daughters crossing the road.

The mom was wearing RED SHOES !!!!!
I looked over to Allison and l said " those are my red shoes  My red shoes!"

Next thing l know l'm running out of Stag into the Charity shop across the road and looking for my red shoe lady.

As soon as l locked eyes with her l had a burst of confidence l've never experienced.

I walked up to her and explained why l was huffing and puffing and about the prayer walk, the red shoes - then l asked to pray for her.

While praying for her in the middle of the shop l really felt the holy spirit give me the words to pray over her. (the lady - Samantha had lost her dad and needing to look after her sick mom (cancer) and her daughters.

When l finished praying she was weeping! I was taken aback by this because l didn't realize the impact this would have on someone.

She kept on weeping and hugging me and saying how much it ment to her.

Even now l am still in shock that God would chose me to be an instrument in his big beautiful plan for someone's life.

After a while of hugging l walked out the shop with the biggest shock exposed all over my face.

Rufaro is part of the young adults group at our church and is rallying the group to do a Luke 10 journey sometime soon. Michael and I have met with the group to do a Discovery Bible study on Luke 10. Together, we drew out the principles of going out with nothing and receiving hospitality, looking for people of peace, and healing the sick and preaching the kingdom. These young people are so excited to get to go out on the train to Cape Town with nothing and see what God does in and through them. Please pray for this time to be fruitful - for lives to be touched, for faith to grow and for this experience to help bring more intentional obedience in their everyday lives.
