Love is a Choice
A post for wives: Has your husband ever tried to do something loving for you and totally missed it? These are beautiful flowers from my husband. So sweet right? The first two thoughts that ran through my head were, "Oh no, how much did those cost" (thankfully flowers are actually cheap here), and "Wow these smell pretty strong, I hope I don't throw up." Gifts are not a way I generally feel loved, but since gifts are my husband's love language he will often give me gifts to show his love. And here's the deal—he’s really trying. So the question is: How do YOU make YOURSELF feel loved when they are trying hard but failing miserably at giving you what you actually need. This is how I do it. I look at those flowers and I remember last Thursday when he gave me a hug before heading to work even though I hadn't showered yet. Or I remember the day before that when he said I looked nice. And I remind myself that even though I honestly don't care about flowers and am not feeling loved today, the truth is I AM loved. And I can choose to respond to that truth instead of my feelings. Because love is a choice.
Jeremiah 31:3 “The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.
