MEET
I keep thinking about the power of meeting. I reflect on the many times this month that I almost sat by myself instead of by a stranger, almost went to an empty table instead of one crowded with chatting people, almost didn’t text that friend who was on my mind, almost didn’t make eye contact in the store. I see now the many opportunities for connection I would have missed. I ask God to help me see His Kingdom and righteousness, and He asks me to open my eyes and heart to the people and opportunities all around me.
So I have decided to continue challenging myself, and invite you all to join me! To help us in our endeavor to open ourselves in love to others, I made a little acrostic from the word MEET. It will remind us to hold Margin, making space and time to see and respond to others instead of hurrying by them or assuming they don’t want to talk. To Engage the other person fully, being interested in their story and their perspective. To be fully present to the moment with that person, with no other agenda than Enjoying them fully. And finally, to Thank the other person for whatever story or thought they have shared, or time and service they have allowed us into, no matter how small. And as an added bonus, to thank God that this moment of connection has happened, and we had the opportunity to experience the Kingdom of love.
Here is our challenge: MEET with someone this week, and the next week, and the next. Wherever we are, no matter how large and urgent or small and mundane the task may seem, we will go with the intention to MEET. God will always meet us there, but I think we’ll find many other hearts that want to do the same.
