Northern Kenya Mission Report

Establishing churches and Kingdom businesses in the unchurched villages within the selected territories of Northern Kenya

Target regions include the regions within the Pokot, Turkana, and Samburu people groups — mostly found in Northern Kenya. Our endeavors have included: scouting, evangelism, and discipleship efforts in East Pokot, Turkana, and Samburu Counties from February 2025 to May 2025.

Recruiting, Vetting, and Training of Church Planters and Project Staff

The team on the ground from All Nations and Biglife (George, Kefa and Rawlings) have been leading the efforts and activities around the project. During this season, our approach to building a team for the northern outreach included:

  • Prayer walking. Visiting specific areas listening to the Holy Spirit’s lead on where and who to engage.

  • Identifying and engaging Persons of Peace in various villages to be discipled and eventually to empower them as disciple makers and church planters. Where we were welcomed and the message received, we spent time with the families sharing and training them on how they can share their story and share about God.

  • Conducting Jesus Disciple Experience (J.D.X.) training in Samburu (March 30 – April 5, 2025), equipping local believers in evangelism and discipleship. The persons of peace within these regions mobilised individuals from the community and we were able to engage them further in training.

  • Hosting a Pioneer Business Planting (PBP) training in Maralal Town, Samburu (May 17–23, 2025), bringing together 30 participants from both Samburu and Turkana tribes. Training included practical tools on Kingdom business and church multiplication. This was specifically to empower the local belivers towards sustainable Disciple Making Movements. The vision is to continue catalysing new places and new areas, and sustainig this with local resources.

  • Providing resources and tools for disciple making: 20 phones and 20 memory cards preloaded with the Bible and Jesus Film in Samburu, Pokot, English, and Kiswahili to support local leaders.

Number of Persons Exposed to the Gospel

Gospel engagement was done through direct visits, training, and outreach events. We had sit downs with families and members of the communities, many of whom were eager to hear the message of the gospel, and welcoming the message. Below is a breakdown of the communities we engaged:

  • an estimated 26,600 to 30,000 people live in the 19 villages visited.

  • In Samburu, over 500 people were engaged with the gospel, either through one on one engagements, training, and Jesus Film show. We showed the Jesus Film in the evenings, and this attracted a huge turnout from the villages.

Number of Persons Expressing Faith in Christ

Some of these communities had a form of Godliness/religion, but no solid faith expressions or communities.

  • Over 150 people of peace personally responded with openness to the gospel during the initial scouting trip.

  • In Samburu, during the March outreach, dozens expressed faith, especially during and after film showings and J.D.X. training. Many from the community accepted and received prayer, and many commenced to meeting regularly with other believers. The last gathering together with believers in the village before we left was about 70 people.

Number of Persons Affirming Faith through Baptism

31 new believers were baptized in Samburu County (April 2025) after the J.D.X. training, publicly declaring their faith.

Number of Groups Meeting and/or Churches Planted

Two churches have now been planted:

  • The church in Samburu County (April 2025) with around 70 believers forming the initial fellowship after the J.D.X. training.

  • The second church is in Turkana County, at Lokuto village, where a fellowship of new believers has formed after outreach and follow-up with persons of peace.

Plans are underway to plant churches in other unreached villages where people of peace were found (e.g., Kurante, Sunguroi, Chesiteti, and Lomilok). We are going to travel alongside the new believers in the new groups and vision cast for the new places. Follow-up plans include forming Discovery Bible Study (DBS) groups in at least ten of the 19 villages visited.

Stories Illustrating Life Change and Progress of the Gospel

In Mpagas (Samburu), the village elders warmly received the gospel team, providing six goats in appreciation. A strong community bond was formed, and many villagers expressed deep interest in learning God’s word. The way they sustained us, and provided for the activties there was a great blessing. In one gathering with the elders, they said they fully accept and welcome this great news, and asked us to come again to help them understand more, and to engage and empower young people. Mzee Kijana, one of the elders, said he has seen a lot of young people geing lost in all sorts of vices and worldly pursuits. He expressed his gratitude for this gospel, and said he will encourage and continue to engage young people with the gospel of Jesus.

Paulo Lerte, one of the believers who attended one of the gospel engagement meetings, said he heard about some disciples who were sharing from a friend and decided to come. He is a college student, who had to drop out of school because of financial challenges. Even through all those tough situations he was going through, he was grateful that the Lord led him back home from school, where he met Jesus, and now he and his family are believers, and he is coming up well as a faithful disciple. He has a business in the village market, and says he is excited about sharing the gospel and what Jesus has done for him with the community. Even before we left, he was already gathering faithful belivers, and we have heard stories of how he is mobilising community to share the gospel, even through meeting needs of the less fortunate in the community. We see the Holy Spirit already burdening him with reaching his people.

The Jesus Film in local languages deeply touched many, with some adults hearing the gospel for the first time in their heart language. In Lomilok (Turkana), over 70 women and children gathered, showing incredible hunger for the word of God and hope through Christ. In all the different places, we have clearly seen a desire for the locals to see the Kingdom of God coming in the communities and to see more of their people following Jesus. We see this as clearly a working of the Holy Spirit in their hearts, creating a hunger for Him and a desire to see more follow Jesus.

Stories of Persecution and Opposition

While no direct violence was encountered by the teams that visited these regions, insecurity remains a serious challenge, especially in Turkana and East Pokot due to tribal cattle raids. This has been a challenge for many years, even for locals, and has contributed to the slow progress of gospel engagement in these regions. Most locals walk around with guns and weapons because of this. Some villages expressed fear about hosting outsiders due to inter-tribal mistrust, especially between the Turkana, Pokot, and Samburu. The abandonment of God has seen these communities attack and fight each other in battle for resources including cattle. Because of the insecurity, there is little to no infrastructure in some of the places. This made access to some locations very limited.

During the baptism in Mpagas, we had some Catholic catechist shouting and trying to distract and discourage the new believers to no avail. He appeared to be drunk, and some of the elders managed to silence him.

Obstacles and Setbacks Encountered and How They Were Addressed

  1. Water Scarcity – Villagers spend an entire day searching for water. We are exploring borehole projects in gospel entry villages. Most of the places are semi-arid and arid areas. This also forces most of the villagers to migrate when situations are dire, to find pasture for their cattle and water.

  2. Food Insecurity – Many regions are famine-stricken. Relief aid is needed short-term; long-term solutions include irrigation and training in sustainable agriculture and business. In most places we shared the little we had with the communities.

  3. Lack of Health Facilities – No clinics in most villages. The need for mobile health clinics is urgent, especially for mothers and children.

  4. Little or no Access to Education – Some areas have zero schooling infrastructure. We aim to partner with education missions to plant schools or training centers.

  5. Security Risks – Ongoing tribal conflicts hinder movement. We addressed this by adjusting travel plans and holding strategic discussions with local elders.

  6. Resource Limitations – Due to financial constraints, some outreach plans (e.g., involving leaders from Kurante and Sunguroi) were postponed. We're seeking partners to help fill these gaps.

Conclusion and Way Forward

The openness and hunger for the gospel in Northern Kenya especially among the Samburu, Rendille, Pokot, and Turkana communities is evident. We are prayerfully planning to:

  • Revisit the villages in July–August 2025 for gospel film outreach.

  • Plant additional churches and disciple new believers through Discovery Bible Studies (DBS).

  • Expand training in business, health, and education, using the local church as a transformation hub.

  • Continue identifying, training, and mentoring local leaders who can serve as long-term planters and disciple-makers.

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” – Luke 10:2

We thank God for the fruit of this mission—including two new churches planted, many trained, and hundreds exposed to the gospel—and we look forward to more laborers joining in this harvest.
