Thoughts on Leadership
Walking in my leadership journey taught me many things. I would love to share my latest gold nuggets with you:
We have to be consistent to see change. There is no quick fix in peoples lives, neither quick development in leaders. You must be consistent in your approach of supporting them, giving guidance and healthy boundaries. Empathy is a wonderful gift but can be a trap to loose leadership. If we are led by empathy and not the vision for change or long term development, we will make decisions, which will not be helpful in the long run. We actually loose focus and end up in fixing situations, instead of empowering the person to be the solution for themselves. Empathy is a very important gift in our leadership journey, but don’t give it to much power and be led by wisdom. Wisdom is a gift, given by the giver that is God himself. If you lack wisdom - ask him for wisdom. There is no shame in not knowing everything. We need wisdom to make the right decisions every day. He promises to give us what we need. if your driving force behind your leadership is to be liked by people, you shouldn’t lead. Leadership is an assignment to lead people from one point to another. The direction might not always be popular or some people don’t want to be led outside their comfort zone. Do it anyway. Our driving force should be the passion to lead the people to the point and into the direction where God wants them. This might include ups and downs, giving loads of questions, direction, encouragement, enduring frustrations and leading them towards decision making.
