The Meanings of the Cross
Have you ever really stopped and thought about the Cross — not just as a symbol, but for what it truly was? Before Jesus gave His life on it, the cross was nothing more than an instrument of pain, torture, and death. It was brutal, humiliating, and terrifying. No one would’ve looked at it with reverence. And yet, today, we maybe wear one around our necks. I see them hanging on walls, lifted high in churches, and even clutched in moments of prayer. The cross on the picture is in a very special place in Ocean View. The very thing that once stood for shame is now a symbol of hope, love, and salvation.
That only happened because of what Jesus chose to do on it. He transformed it — completely. And if He can do that with something like the cross, then He can do the same with the broken, painful, or shameful parts of my life, too. That hits me deeply.
There are things in my life — moments, memories, struggles — that feel messy, maybe even hopeless at times. But God doesn’t shy away from that. He steps into it. He takes what feels like death and brings it to life. The Cross reminds me that nothing is too far gone. Nothing is wasted. He can redeem it all.
So now, when I look at the Cross, I don’t just see something holy — I see a personal invitation. A reminder that no matter how hard things get, God is still working. He’s still redeeming. And He’s still turning crosses into resurrections.
