Jesus' Last Yes
Dear Friends,
Jesus’ last “Yes” is why we do missions. I love that the Bible ends with Jesus’ resounding “Yes” to us. His last recorded words are, “Yes, I am coming soon.” (Rev 22:20) And our hearts say, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!”
Longing for Christ’s coming is the fuel and goal of missions. In Matthew 24:14, Jesus says that “this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (In Greek, “all nations” refers to every ethnicity or people group in the world.)
In our longing for Christ’s return, we do missions because we know that Jesus will return when the Gospel has been preached in all the world! That’s why All Nations’ passion is to see the Gospel proclaimed among the +7,000 unreached people groups that still make up a third of the world’s population, or 3.3 billion people.
Jesus describes that this Gospel will be preached as a “witness,” which means that it must be visible or tangible. We believe that the most tangible expression of the Gospel is the church. That is why All Nations’ mission is to make disciples and raise up the leaders who plant and multiply churches among each of the remaining unreached peoples of the world.
We proclaim Jesus because His “Yes” is also for those who have not believed. As a non-believer at the age of 17, I decided to buy a Bible. It was no easy task because when I walked into the Christian book shop, there was an entire wall of bibles to choose from. I picked a big black bible because it looked weighty and authoritative. When I opened it up to read in my dorm room, I couldn’t put it down. It was as if the words lept off the pages. As I spent hours reading the promises throughout the Bible, I found myself saying, “Lord, do this promise for me. Do that for me too. I want that too.” He answered with His astounding “Yes”: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” (II Cor. 1:20) Our Jesus says “Yes” again and again.
And He still does. Sometimes life gets hard and weary. We lose hope and are disappointed. But Jesus is ready to buoy us with his “Yes.” What promise in your life today does Jesus want you to renew afresh? Today, the promise I’m rekindling in my life is “May your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” (Ps. 143:10) What is yours? Jesus wants us to be a people of yes.
In All Nations, we say “Yes” to proclaiming Jesus in the whole world because He first said “Yes” to us. Will you also say "Yes" to Jesus if He calls you to serve peoples of the nations? We proclaim Jesus so that all the peoples of the world will say, “Yes, come Lord Jesus!”
Blessings,
Mary
