Stories of Baptisms

We were so pleased to host two baptisms at our Dock workspace in Hamburg’s city center in January. The new multicultural church led by Amin, Michael and Adele Heyns, and Salome Kalahan met on a Saturday to baptize two new believers into the Body of Christ! Thanks to a generous donation from a nearby church, we were able to use a mobile baptismal in our space, as it’s much too cold in Germany right now to baptize in the Elbe!

Because of security reasons, photos could not be taken, and names have been changed, but please read the following testimonies from these two new sisters in Christ.

Hannah was born into a Middle Eastern Orthodox family. She had no relationship to the Lord… in fact she was very resistant to anything to do with faith. One day she had a sudden experience where she had a powerful encounter with the Lord. It felt like she just wanted to get up from her knees and run into the streets to hug and kiss everyone. From that time, she was filled with the Holy Spirit and He moved powerfully in her. She was only baptized as a baby and asked to be baptized by her new believing family. When Hannah encountered the Lord, she mentioned it felt like waves or a current that went through her. She felt like she just wanted to burst open like a fountain.

Fatima was born into a North African Muslim family, who have been quite radical in following their faith. Somewhere in 2019 and 2020, a longing started in her heart to search for truth. She started comparing what the different sects of Islam believe. As she was doing this in secret, she mainly just had online resources to rely on. But soon she found that this was not satisfying the longing of her heart.

Somehow, she started reading and listening to more and more testimonies of Muslims who came to Christ. The more she read, the more she started seeing the hidden lies in Islam. And she started seeing the life that Christ has brought to people’s lives. And it came to a point where she realized she knew too much to ever turn back. She received Christ on her own, in secret, in December of 2020.

At first it was quite a scary and lonely road, but the Lord connected her with different people who started supporting her online, and she was later connected her with a Muslim background (also North African) believing lady in another part of Europe, to disciple her in their dialect. And at the same time, the connection with our team grew.

In the past few months, we have been discipling and walking with her, and she asked to be baptized. So it was with great joy that this past Saturday, we could gather as a new community to baptize Fatima. The heart of our community is to especially become the home and family of Arabs who start following Jesus. We praise Him for every soul that He adds to us!
