An Advent Reflection and Poem

This year, our family has taken time to observe Advent, a season of waiting and anticipation for the coming of Jesus. Each night, we light candles, sit in silence, read a short devotion, and meditate on the idea that Christ has come, is actively coming in our lives today, and that He will come again. This is a somber anticipation as we live between the now and the not-yet. We hold in tension that Christ has promised redemption for all of the evil in this world; yet our dear friends are still separated from their loved ones across the world, natural disasters shake already unstable nations, war and violence continue seemingly unchecked, stresses are compounded on our dear refugee friends who already struggle in a new nation, and - despite all the progress - drought, famine, and injustice continue to threaten the glimmer of hope that our dear friends in East Africa have cultivated.

This season reminds us that we must be people, who in the midst of silence and darkness, light the candle of hope and hold it up - Christ has come, He is coming, and He will come again!

In this season of Advent
May it be a time of peace,
That we would all lament,
That all the violence and war would cease

We pray the Son will come,
And come He will again,
But let's focus on the Lord
Again and again my friend

Sit in silence we must
But remember that God is just
We all must learn to trust
This one who love us

But on the twenty-fifth
We celebrate and sing,
Welcome, welcome!
A celebration for our King!

About the author: Jeremy* and his family completed CPX in Kansas City in 2024 and joined All Nations then, but have been participating in training programs with All Nations since 2021.

“My wife and I have been married for nearly 14 years and we have four kiddos (ages 12, ten, eight, and two). Our main ministry focus is to create spaces for individuals and communities to thrive amidst earthly tragedies, like war and poverty. We engage with UPGs, refugees, and the impoverished with the hope of introducing Kingdom principles and good news of J. We believe that healthy, engaged family-on-mission is a potent force in the world and that our kiddos are indispensable members of our team. As a family, we love to recreate in nature, eat good food, laugh, and play games.”
