Rest

I just finished a great book from John Mark Comer about the topic of rest and keeping the Sabbath. (Garden City). It was very inspiring and encouraging. I learned a couple of years back the importance of the Sabbath and how it affects our immune system, energy levels, mental health and vision for our mission. With a family of five, of course you can’t just disappear and have alone time, or you say goodbye to any duties of your off day. But we definitely can start planning how rest looks like.

I am a very spontaneous person. I love to be outside, do outings and spend time with my family or close people. This gives me energy and is restful to me. I plan intentionally how I am NOT opening my computer and NOT checking my work mails on my off day. I try to keep my tech time as low as possible. I read my books and stay a bit longer in my bed. I love to sniff flowers, feel the air around me, have a great cup of coffee without hurry, and capture beautiful pictures of the nature around me. I lie down wherever I feel it is beautiful. I look for treasures in my surroundings and spend time with my loved ones. I remember how thankful I am to be alive and to be able to work on my other days and worship God through my work. I remember I am carried by my creator and he loves me deeply.

John Mark Comer says it that way:

“That’s why Sabbath is an expression of faith. Faith that there is a Creator and he’s good. We are his creation. This is his world. We live under his roof, drink his water, eat his food, breathe his oxygen. So on the Sabbath, we don’t just take a day off from work; we take a day off from toil. We give him all our fear and anxiety and stress and worry. We let go. We stop ruling and subduing, and we just be. We “remember” our place in the universe. So that we never forget . . . There is a God, and I’m not him.”
