Loved

Last Sunday I walked a beautiful short hike from Constantia to Kirstenbosch in Cape Town. On my way I came across this stone, which was in a heart shape. I love to find small treasures like that. Looking at the beautiful stone heart, I was reminded that love comes in unexpected places. Today I had a challenging and tiring day in our ministry in Ocean View. To carry leadership in a growing organisation, leading all kinds of people, and especially training young people in our program for unemployed youth who are coming from hard places, is really not a walk in the park. I was dealing with different people, drama, community challenges and loads of questions in leadership, which I can’t just answer easily as they are complex situations. But surprisingly I felt loved. Not because of the people I had conversations with or because I had butterflies in my stomach or good feelings - but because I felt God’s presence and I know he is with me.

One of my favorite Bible verses is in Romans 8:38-39

"For I know that nothing can keep us from the love of God. Death cannot! Life cannot! Angels cannot! Leaders cannot! Any other power cannot! Hard things now or in the future cannot! The world above or the world below cannot! Any other living thing cannot keep us away from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord."

All About the Author: Doris comes originally from Switzerland, is married to a Irish husband, has lived for nearly 9 years in Cape Town, and is raising 3 teenage kids to be world changers. She founded and leads a ministry called HopeTown, reaching out to the youth at risk in the former township of Ocean View. Her heart beats to combine ministry and discipleship on the ground with business opportunities to make the ministry self-sustainable, long term, and with training and job opportunities for the marginalised young people. Her love of giving second chances is also seen in her enjoyment of shopping second-hand markets!
