Shepherding Little People
Lately I have not been the mom I hoped I’d be, or even frankly the one I thought I’d be. It’s been wild, life has, and hard in ways I was ready for and also some I was not. Maybe it’s thrown me off. Or maybe I was always gonna be this bad 🤣 I guess it’s been one of those sneak-into-the-room-after-they’re-sleeping-and-stroke-the-last-remnants-of-any-sort-of-chubbiness-of-cheek-just-to-find-my-way-back-to-that-(OH THAT’S RIGHT)-hey-they-actually-ARE-all-I-ever-hoped-for-and-wanted kinda season lately. Sometimes I lose sight of that in the rush of the day and the intensity of navigating this strange, gritty midlife, but in the night somehow I always remember.
When I see their radiant baby faces shining back at me this memory of their first week of school in Dar es Salaam three years ago, I remember… a lot of things, but most of all, that these little people and their radiant souls are truly my greatest pride and joy, shepherding them the privilege of my life. Hands down.
Also, they’re obviously the cutest you ever did see but unnaturally ferocious and ill-mannered like you can’t believe when crossed. You have been warned.
About the author: Liana Stone writes from beneath a sometimes literal pile of the most delicious tiny humans you ever saw. She and her effervescent husband, Jason, currently call Oregon home, having moved back from Zanzibar in 2020, where they served with All Nations. Liana had the privilege of not only attending the first Capetonian Church Planting Experience (CPx) in 2008, but attending a second CPx in Cape Town with Jason in 2012 (Double graduate here, people). Both Liana and Jason have a deep love for the All Nations family and are grateful for the way their time working within All Nations has shaped and impacted their life.
