Not-So-Glorious Seasons

Many of us have thought of being a part of a mighty revival, like the Great Awakening or the Jesus Movement, or more recent moves of God. Times when God speaks, we hear Him so clearly, and have the privilege of Holy Spirit moving though us to touch others. We look towards great heroes of the faith: Abraham, Noah, David, Moses and Joshua, and try to glean and learn from their actions and faith. As we should.

Have you ever thought of those times in-between? Those not-so-glorious seasons, when nothing happens, no revival, no great moves of God, just life. Day to day life.

I was thinking about those days the other day. Noah was around 500 years old when he was told to build the ark. What did he do for 500 years? The only reference we have is in “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God" (Genesis 6:9). Noah walked faithfully.

Moses spent 40 years in wilderness of Median before God called him. What did he do for 40 years? What about Joshua? We all recollect his great conquest of Jericho and his faith with the spies, but did you ever consider his 40 years in the desert where he did nothing! We only get bits and pieces of his life, mostly that he enjoyed hanging out in the temple, long after others left. Spending time with he Lord.

Abraham, who is called the father of our faith, was 75 years old when God called him, and we know little to nothing about him before that time.

Let’s talk about Job. Job was around 70 years old when the account started with the Devil accusing God of protecting Job, and that his faith will waiver if God removes His hand of protection. All we know about Job before that time was God’s own word’s: “Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil” (Job 1:8).

What about Jesus? We heard about him when he was born, and when they lost him in the temple, around 12 years old. Then, nothing till he was about 30, when he started His ministry. What did he do for 18 years? We know he did some carpentry, other than that, nothing.

So, what did Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Job, Jesus, Ruth, Mary and so many other do in those not-so-glorious seasons of their lives?

They loved God. They where faithful to Him. The walked in righteousness. In truth.

Be encouraged! If you are not living in a great time of revival and miracles, but in everyday life with it’s routines, challenges, sometimes mundane cycle…love God! Walk faithfully…make disciples.

Their hearts are for the unreached peoples of the world, specifically in Central Asia, and to disciple believers to walk in purity and freedom.

In 2020 they partnered with Sexuality Unmasked, a ministry focused on healing, deliverance, and restoration from the negative effects of sexual sin: abortion, abuse, molestation, adultery, immorality, pornography, rape, sexual confusion, and sex trafficking.

Sexuality Unmasked's powerful message exposes the lies in culture that falsely define the sexual roles of men and women and helps establish them in their true God-given identities. This movement has released healing to thousands of people worldwide through conferences, churches, and discipleship schools.

Gert has co-authored the Sexuality Unmasked Workbook, a companion to Sexuality Unmasked.

They have six children, and carry a message of life flowing from home where they home-educate, create + strategize business innovation, and lead a home church. They currently serve with All Nations and are seconded to Sexuality Unmasked based out of Spokane, WA.
